HAVI Logistics serves and smashes for a cause
The
sound of rackets whipping through the air filled the Yonex Badminton Center in
Metro Manila, Philippines as two HAVI teams toughed it out against 30 others in
the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Annual Badminton Tournament that took
place on September 17 and 24, 2011.
HAVI
has been participating as a major sponsor since the tournament’s inception six
years ago. And the HAVI badminton team never disappoints: last year, our players
placed third in the Masters division; this year, HAVI climbed to the semi-final
round in the Elite division against the strongest opponents. Also competing were
teams from other McDonald’s suppliers and a few local celebrities who stole the
scene with their fair share of smashing moves.
Proceeds
from the event will go to the RMHC Bright Minds Read (BMR), a nationwide program
carried out in partnership with the Department of Education. For the past few
years they have been providing reading toolkits to public schools all over the
country to help first-grade students strengthen their reading fundamentals in an
engaging manner. These toolkits contain several books, lesson plans for
teachers, and worksheets good for four quarters of the school year. 2,700 public
elementary schools currently benefit from the program—a number that RMHC
definitely plans to grow in the future.
"MHC
can continue to count on our support in the years to come. Nation-building
always starts with a good foundation such as education; that is why HAVI will
gladly step forward for this cause every single time,” said Ronnie Cruz,
Managing Director of HAVI Philippines.
